Addressing the Peril of Land Purchase: A Call to Unite

In response to the recent series of articles penned by Mr William O’Brien, shedding light on the precarious state of land purchase, I, as the Chairman of the Limerick Board of Guardians and a landowner myself, feel compelled to extend a call for unity and collective action.

The looming threat of a land purchase deadlock demands immediate attention, and I concur with Mr O’Brien’s assessment that the only effective countermeasure is a collabourative effort. It is imperative for representatives of both landlords and tenants to convene, as they did years ago, and formulate a plan that can safeguard the interests of all parties involved.

Having weathered challenges in the past, we must draw inspiration from historical collabourations that successfully averted crises. In times of uncertainty, it is through mutual understanding and shared initiatives that solutions emerge. The proposed plan, echoing the cooperative spirit of bygone eras, can potentially serve as a blueprint for ensuring the stability and prosperity of our lands.

As the Chairman of the Limerick Board of Guardians, I am acutely aware of the complexities surrounding land issues, and the current situation demands a proactive and unified response. By learning from the past and adopting a strategic approach, we can prevent the land purchase deadlock from spiraling into chaos and anarchy.

The urgency of the matter cannot be overstated, and the consequences of inaction are too dire to contemplate. It is my sincere hope that landlords and tenants, recognizing the shared interests at stake, will come together, contribute their perspectives, and collectively forge a path forward.

In signing off, I echo Mr O’Brien’s sentiments and emphasize that the challenges facing us require a united front. Let history be our guide, and may our collabourative efforts pave the way for a more secure and harmonious future for the land and its stewards.

Yours sincerely,

John McFertity, J.P.
Chairman, Limerick Board of Guardians
