The mission held in Abbeyfeale, initiated by the Redemptorist Fathers of Limerick, came to a close on Sunday night. The Very Rev. Father McNamara, Rev. Father McGuire, and Rev. Father Lynch, C.SS.R., had conducted the mission, which saw a massive turnout. Large crowds filled the church daily, attending special devotions arranged in honourof the Blessed Sacrament and the Blessed Virgin.
Priests from nearby parishes were present during the week, hearing confessions and providing guidance to the faithful. The final evening’s devotions concluded with an inspiring appeal from Rev. Father McNamara, who urged those present to join the Anti-Treating Association, contribute to the crusade against excessive drinking, discourage emigration, and encourage national pride and the use of the national language.
Moreover, Father McNamara called on the congregation to take pride and dignity in their work at home, fostering a sense of community and cooperation. The valedictory sermon captivated the audience and concluded with missionary blessings and the Papal Benediction. During the mission, a significant number of participants enrolled in the Anti-Treating League, showcasing the event’s impact on the community.
