Mr P Kennedy of Military Road has made a significant contribution of £50 towards the Gerald Griffin Memorial, as announced recently. In a letter addressed to the Mayor, Mr Kennedy expressed his support for the project and outlined the background of his pledge. The following is a copy of the letter sent by Mr Kennedy:

The Right Worshipful the Mayor.

Dear Sir,

I had a conversation some five years ago with the Rev Brother Walsh, the Superior of the Christian Brothers in Limerick. The subject of our discussion was St Mary’s Schools and the parish, which happens to be the birthplace of Gerald Griffin. During our conversation, I expressed my willingness to donate £50 towards the reconstruction of the schools if they were named after Gerald Griffin.

In fulfillment of my promise, I am pleased to enclose a cheque as my first instalment, amounting to £10, towards the aforementioned project. I sincerely hope that the citizens will wholeheartedly support this endeavour, ensuring that the work done will be deserving of the name it bears.

Mr Kennedy’s generous contribution serves as a testament to his commitment to the memory of Gerald Griffin and the improvement of St Mary’s Schools.
