During a recent meeting of the Agriculture and Technical Instruction Committee, the proposed cement works project was discussed. The sight for the project has not yet been finalized. Mr E.J. Long, who initially brought the idea to attention, suggested that experts from the committee be consulted regarding the most suitable method of manufacturing based on the available raw materials outside the city.
Mr P. Bourke, the vice-chairman of the Limerick Guardians, attended the meeting and mentioned that a Belfast-based firm of contractors expressed interest in learning more about the project’s execution. While it would be ideal to have the project led by local businesspeople, Mr Bourke stated that if they do not come forward, it would be acceptable to involve contractors from Northern Ireland.
The primary focus of the discussion was to ensure that the project provides employment opportunities and stimulates the circulation of money within the city. The committee members expressed their willingness to explore all possibilities in order to bring the proposed cement works to fruition.
