A County Limerick Estate Engages in Tenant Negotiations

Tenants residing on the Cantillon estate in Ballintubber, Newcastle West, recently held a meeting with their agent, Mr Peter Fitzgerald, at Curtin’s Hotel to discuss the potential purchase of their holdings. Both parties engaged in negotiations to determine an agreeable arrangement.

Initially, the landlord presented an offer of a 35.6% reduction in rent deemed to be on the second term. However, the tenants were not satisfied with this proposal and made a counteroffer. They suggested a purchase agreement spanning a period of 20 years. Regrettably, the landlord rejected this offer, prompting the tenants to reconsider their position.

After careful consideration, the tenants revised their proposal and put forth a new offer of 21.4 years. In response, the agent representing the landlord counteroffered by suggesting a purchase term of 24.3 years. Despite these discussions, no definitive agreement was reached during the meeting.

The negotiations between the Cantillon estate tenants and their agent remain ongoing, as both parties continue to work towards finding a mutually beneficial resolution. The outcome of these deliberations will have significant implications for the future of the tenants and their relationship with the estate.
