Limerick Corporation Agrees to Cover Stamp Expenses for Summonses in Street Betting Cases

Limerick, Ireland – During the Limerick Corporation meeting on Friday night, chaired by the Mayor, a discussion took place regarding the responsibility for covering the expenses of stamps on summonses related to the enforcement of a bye-law concerning street betting. Letters from District-Inspector O’Hara of the R.I.C. were read, presuming that the Corporation would bear these costs.

Mr Dundon expressed his opinion that it was only fair for the Council to cover the expenses of stamps on summonses if they intended to enforce the law. Mr Guinane concurred with this viewpoint. Mr Stokes then proposed that the Corporation complies with the terms outlined in Inspector’s letter.

However, Mr Slattery raised the question of whether it was worthwhile for the Corporation to incur this expense. In response, the Mayor stated that he believed the expense would be minimal. Mr Guinane supported this by suggesting that it would not amount to £1 over the course of six months.

In the end, Mr Stokes’ resolution was unanimously adopted, signifying the Corporation’s agreement to cover the costs of stamps on summonses for street betting cases, as requested by District Inspector O’Hara.

The decision reflects the Corporation’s commitment to enforcing the bye-law on street betting and ensuring that necessary expenses are incurred in the process.
