Limerick was taken aback on Sunday upon learning that Mr William O’Brien, Member of Parliament, had made a private visit to the city. The surprise was further heightened by the presence of the Lord Mayor of Cork, Mr J. Crean, M.V., and Mr John O’Donnell, who met O’Brien upon his arrival. The group stayed at the George Hotel, where they were greeted by Mr Henry O’Shea, Mr Patrick Bourke, P.C., and other Nationalists. It is understood that a private conference took place to discuss the current political situation, although the details and outcomes of the discussions have not been revealed. Throughout the day, Mr O’Brien remained at the hotel, while the others toured the city and its outskirts in open carriages. Notably, Alderman Joyce, MP.., was unaware of the party’s visit to Limerick and only discovered it by chance while passing the George Hotel, prompting him to pay a formal but friendly visit to Mr O’Brien.
