The final match of the Munster Hurling Championship took place on Sunday evening at Tralee Sports Field between the teams representing Limerick and Cork. Despite heavy rain and a strong breeze, which made conditions unpleasant, there was a large crowd in attendance. Here are the details:
Limerick won the toss and chose to play with the strong wind at their backs. Right from the start, Limerick took possession of the ball and quickly scored a goal before Cork could react. The puck-out favoured Limerick, and Cork managed to score a minor point followed by an easy goal. The game continued at a fast pace despite the rain, and an intense struggle in front of Limerick’s goal resulted in a well-earned point for Cork. The play remained evenly contested, and Limerick added another goal to their tally. The halftime score was announced as follows:
Limerick: 3 goals Cork: 1 goal and 3 points
During the second half, Limerick found themselves mostly defending, with Cork continuously scoring points and goals, except for a few good rushes and one minor score from Limerick. When the final whistle blew, the referee declared the score:
Cork: 4 goals and 11 points Limerick: 3 goals and 1 point
The slippery ground conditions made play unreliable, but there were still some impressive displays of the game. Mr O’Sullivan from Listowel served as the referee for the match.
