The Rathkeale branch of the Gaelic League has recently reopened its Irish classes at the Temperance Hall, offering regular sessions on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings throughout the winter. The branch has been fortunate to secure the services of a highly skilled native Irish-speaking teacher who will divide his time between Rathkeale, Ballingarry, and Adare. Members of the Rathkeale Branch have already achieved numerous distinctions at various competitions, including those in Limerick, Kilwallock, Killiney, and the Dublin Oireachtas this year. With their dedication and determination, they are likely to make their mark at next year’s competitions as well. Over a hundred individuals have expressed their intention to join the Irish classes this session, demonstrating a growing interest in the language.
Rev. J. Murphy, the local Catholic curate of Rathkeale, has been instrumental in promoting the language and the cause of Irish culture. Under his capable leadership, the branch is expected to flourish. Irish has already been successfully taught in the Coneen Schools in Rathkeale for several years, and it is now being introduced in the Male National School.
