Postponement of Presentation for Freedom of Limerick to Mr William O’Brien

In regards to the special meeting scheduled for Monday by the Corporation of Limerick for the purpose of presenting the Freedom of the City to Mr William O’Brien, MP.., the Mayor has received the following letter:

“George Hotel, Limerick,
November 6th, 1904.

My Dear Mr Mayor,

I have received the message from the Town Clerk regarding tomorrow’s meeting of the Corporation, and I deeply appreciate the honour bestowed upon me through the invitation to complete my citizenship in your esteemed old city by signing the Roll of Honorary Burgesses. However, I believe there will be a general sentiment that, as not all of the intended presentations are taking place on the same occasion, it is not advisable, given the current circumstances, to proceed with an individual ceremony. I hope that on a future occasion, it may be possible to arrange for both myself and the esteemed leader of the Irish Party to receive the distinguished municipal honour intended for us by the generous citizens of Limerick.

My dear Mr Mayor,

Yours very faithfully,
William O’Brien.”

“Right Worshipful M. Donnelly,
Mayor of Limerick.”
