Several delegates from various locations were present, including representatives from Cordal, Abbeyfeale, Mount Collins, Knocknagoshel, and Tournafulla, among others.
Resolutions proposed by Mr D. Connor and seconded by Mr J. Leahy were unanimously adopted. The resolutions included:
- Expressing opposition to landlords’ demands and tenants agreeing to pay a greater number of years’ purchase for the landlords’ diminishing interest in the lands, particularly in light of increasing foreign competition, rising labour costs, and agricultural depression. This is especially relevant when landlords are receiving bonuses and other incentives to sell.
- Encouraging all Nationalists in Ireland, regardless of their class, to unite under the banner of the United Irish League, emphasizing the importance of a united, representative, and consistent organization to achieve Irish people’s national rights and aspirations.
- Strongly condemning the government’s treacherous betrayal of the labourers’ cause through the introduction of an inadequate and unsatisfactory bill and subsequently amending it under pressure from the Irish Party. The resolution asserts the determination to continue fighting until the labourers’ and artisans’ issues are satisfactorily resolved.
- Welcoming with delight and satisfaction the return of Mr William O’Brien to parliamentary life, recognizing his past achievements for the Irish people and expressing confidence in his future work.
- Advocating for all untenanted lands (excluding evicted farms) to be divided into suitable plots for labourers, and suggesting that grazing ranches should also be utilized for the same purpose. Providing means of livelihood for labourers is seen as essential to halt the tide of emigration.
When Rev. Father Murphy took the podium, he received a warm and enthusiastic reception. He expressed his gratitude for the turnout and emphasized the importance of unity and determination in achieving their goals.
