FLASHES FROM THE FOOTLIGHTS

A new Irish historical play titled “Sarsfield, a Story of the Siege of Limerick” was recently premiered at the Dublin Queen’s Theatre by J. W. Whitbread’s Company. The play was written by Mr Whitbread, who has established himself as an author, and this latest work is considered his best effort yet. The lead role of Sarsfield was portrayed with dignity and reserve by Mr Robert Faulkner.

Mr Albert Sinclair delivered a standout performance as the wicked Duke of Württemberg. Miss Maude Tremayne, despite the challenges of her role as Lady Rose, received a commendation for her portrayal. The play also featured talented actors such as Mr James O’Brien as Terry, Mr Thomas L. Rooney as Lord Sydney, Sir Dane Clarke as General de Genkie, Mr Harry Richardson as Hans Oasterdam, Miss Monica Kelly as Eilly Blake, and Miss Annie Hylton as Lady Honor.

The production was well-received, thanks in part to the excellent performances and the beautiful scenery painted by Mr W. W. Small. The play’s focus on Irish history and the Siege of Limerick added to its appeal and captivated the audience.
