Indian Mutiny Veteran Major-General Thaddeus Richard Ryan Passes Away

Limerick, Ireland – Major-General Thaddeus Richard Ryan, a veteran of the Indian Mutiny, passed away at his residence, Soartian House, Co. Limerick. Born in 1837, the deceased held the esteemed positions of magistrate and deputy lieutenant. He had a remarkable military career, serving with the Royal Artillery for an impressive thirty-six years.

During the Indian Mutiny, Major-General Ryan’s bravery and leadership shone at the capture of Delhi and other engagements. His distinguished service during this challenging period showcased his dedication and valour on the battlefield.

After his illustrious career with the Royal Artillery, Major-General Ryan retired from his post as the commanding officer of the Royal Artillery Canada in 1893.

His passing marks the end of an era, as he was one of the few remaining veterans with first-hand experience of the Indian Mutiny, a significant chapter in British colonial history. Major-General Ryan leaves behind a legacy of bravery, devotion, and service to his country.
