A County Limerick Property – Estates Commissioners’ Potential Purchase

In the House of Commons, Mr Lundon questioned the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland regarding negotiations for the sale and purchase of lands between Mr Stafford Delmege of Ballymore, County Tipperary, and his tenants in the parishes of Knocklong and Glenbrohane, County Limerick. He asked whether the Estates Commissioners had received any communications from the landlords, the agents (Messrs Saunders of Charleville), or the interested parties in the townlands of Glenbrobane, Ballingarry, and Garryspillane regarding the possible purchase of the untenanted lands for distribution among labourers, small farmers, and evicted tenants.

In response, Mr Wyndham acknowledged that representations had indeed been made by tenants and others in the area. However, he stated that no formal application for the sale of the estate had been submitted to the Commissioners yet, nor had they received any communication from the landlord or their agents on the matter.

Mr Lundon also inquired about the possibility of the Estates Commissioners purchasing the untenanted lands in Carnane, Fedamore, County Limerick, from individuals associated with the property’s owners, the Messrs Synan, or from the receiver or mortgagees. The purpose would be to divide these lands among the inhabitants of the congested district.

In response, Mr Wyndham explained that the Estates Commissioners were aware that the solicitors handling the property were hopeful of arranging a sale. However, no official communication had been received at that time.
