At a recent meeting of the County Technical and Agricultural Committee, the members passed a resolution expressing concern over the lack of positive outcomes from itinerant instruction within the Technical Department. The committee highlighted the need to alleviate the financial burden associated with this form of education.
In their resolution, the County Limerick Committee recommended that the County Council reconsider the current funding approach. Instead of continuing to levy a penny in the pound for education, the committee proposed a halfpenny in the pound tax rate. This slight reduction, they believe, would generate sufficient funds while allowing for the redistribution of resources towards more effective educational initiatives.
The committee acknowledged that itinerant instruction has not produced the desired results and is an inefficient use of resources. Therefore, they call for a shift in funding towards other schemes that have demonstrated greater success and effectiveness in educating the populace.
The resolution now awaits consideration by the County Council. Its proponents hope that the County Council will adopt the recommendation, recognizing the importance of optimizing educational programs for the benefit of the community.
By reassessing funding allocation, the County Limerick Committee aims to ensure that the county’s educational initiatives are more fruitful and impactful, ultimately benefiting the students and residents of County Limerick..
