On January 31st, at the Mercy Convent in Charleville, two young ladies, Miss Madge Stack and Miss Lizzie Cagney, joyously received the black veil, marking the beginning of their journey as nuns. Miss Madge Stack took the name, Sister M. Aidan, while Miss Lizzie Cagney adopted the name Sister M. Finbar.
The esteemed Most Rev. Dr Browne, Lord Bishop of Clonfert, presided over the solemn ceremony. Assisting him were Rev. S. Burton, C.C., Charleville, and Rev. P. M. Lynch, C.C., also from Charleville. The event was graced by several other clergymen, including Very Rev. P. J. Canon O’Callaghan, P.P., Charleville; Very Rev. Canon Hurley, P.P., Blarney; Very Rev. D. Canon Mannix, President of Maynooth College; Rev. G. Fuller, P.P., Kilcummin; Rev. P. Higgins, P.P., Effin, County Limerick; Rev. E. Morton, P.P., Ballyhea; Rev. J. Moore, P.P., Shandrum; Rev. P. Miss Madge Stack, the youngest daughter of Mr Edward Stack from Fahabane, Kilflynn, and Miss Lizzie Cagney, second daughter of Mr John Cagney from Springiord House, Charleville, were surrounded by their loved ones on this auspicious occasion.
Among those present for Miss Stack were her proud father, Mr Edward Stack, her sister, Miss Stack, and her cousins Mr W. Walsh, Mrs. O’Sullivan, Miss Fitzmaurice, and Miss Hayes.
The supportive family members present for Miss Cagney included her father, Mr Cagney, her mother, Mrs. Cagney, her brother, Mr D. Cagney, her sister, Miss Cagney, and her cousins Dr M. Cagney, Miss B. Cagney from Cork, and Mrs. T. Mannix from Charleville.
Following the momentous ceremony, the friends and attendees were warmly hosted at the convent, where they celebrated and shared in the joy of these two young women embarking on their sacred journey as nuns.
