At the Denbighshire (Image) Assizes, Timothy Swift, a labourer from Limerick, was sentenced to three years penal servitude for a violent attack on Mr Robert Williams Wynne, a wealthy gentleman residing in a secluded area of Gartbewin County.
The incident occurred on the evening of December 27th, when Mr Wynne was unexpectedly assaulted by Swift in one of his outbuildings. Swift viciously attacked Mr Wynne, knocking him to the ground, and then proceeded to bind and rob him.
During the trial, Swift attempted to present a defence, but the jury found it to be unreliable and disbelieved his claims. Swift’s defence was based on the assertion that he had been entertained by Mr Wynne, suggesting that the attack was not premeditated.
Despite his defence, the court handed down a three-year penal servitude sentence for the brutal attack and robbery committed by Timothy Swift.
