Limerick Industrial Association Plans Thrilling Exhibition for Autumn

Limerick, May 2, 1905: The Limerick Industrial Association convened at the Chamber of Commerce on Friday evening to discuss the prospects of organizing an exciting Industrial Exhibition later in the year. Alderman M. Joyce, MP.., the esteemed Mayor, chaired the meeting, which saw the attendance of prominent members and officials representing various industries.

The meeting commenced with a heartfelt appreciation for the previous year’s successful exhibition. The discussion revolved around whether to hold the event in the coming autumn or postpone it until the next year. The decision proved to be pivotal, considering the scheduled fete in aid of Barrington’s Hospital, which raised concerns about potential success if both events coincided.

While some proposed postponing the exhibition to the following year, others fervently advocated for an autumn event. The latter group highlighted the possibility of attracting exhibitors from outside the city, thereby expanding the scope and impact of the exhibition.

Father J.M. Cregan, who has been instrumental in fostering industry in St. Lelia’s House, shared his experiences with successful fetes but expressed caution about holding two in one year. Nonetheless, with the right approach and a well-organized committee, an autumn exhibition could indeed succeed.

In a spirited debate, the sentiment among attendees shifted towards proceeding with the exhibition this year. It was argued that the working people would be enthusiastic supporters, and with proper planning, the event could garner substantial backing.

Alderman O’Mara initially proposed postponing the exhibition but later withdrew the resolution in favor of holding the event. He suggested appointing a committee to engage with manufacturers and guarantors to gauge support and set a fixed date.

The resolution was unanimously approved, and the following committee members were appointed: Mrs. O’Shea (St. Lelia’s Knitting School), Miss Dunne (Limerick Lace School), Alderman O’Mara, Messrs T. Geary, E. Cole, D. O’Donovan, M. Browne, M. Hickey, B. Sheehy, R.P. O’Connor, B.C., M. Hartigan, P. Cusack, D.L. Roche, G. Spillane, M.E. Halpin, M. O’Callaghan, MP.. Riordan, and J. Scanlan.

The Limerick Industrial Association looks forward to an exciting exhibition in the autumn, showcasing the city’s thriving industries and offering the community a memorable and enriching experience.
