At the Land Sessions on Monday, Judge Adams fixed fair rents for several land cases in Limerick. Here are the details:
- James Grady, tenant; Norman Pollack, landlord. Area: 94 acres, 2 roods, 30 perches. Old rent: £8 10s. Poor law valuation: £8 10s. Mr Bennett valued it for the tenant at £3, describing it as a miserable holding with many stones. Judge Adams fixed the second-term rent at £5.
- Patrick Ryan, tenant; Ulick Burke, landlord. Area: 244 acres, 3 roods, 4 perches. Old judicial rent: £22 10s. Valuation for tenant: £10. Mr Barnagton, representing the head landlords, Craven Quartly, argued for heavy reductions, as Mr Burke, a widower, was losing £9 a year on the farm. Mr E. G. Peek, ex Sub-Commissioner, valued it for the landlord at £24 9s. The first-term rent was fixed at £19 10s.
- John O’Shaughnessy, tenant; same landlord. Old unjudicial rent: £4 1s 1d. Poor law valuation: £4. First-term rent fixed at £33.
