Election of Chairman and Finance Committee in Limerick County Council

At a recent meeting of the Limerick County Council, several important matters were discussed, including the election of the chairman and the formation of the Finance Committee.

Mr Patrick Vaughan was elected as the Chairman of the Council. Despite some opposition, Mr Vaughan graciously accepted the position and expressed his commitment to serving the ratepayers, farmers, and labourers in the best way possible.

For the Finance Committee, there was a lengthy debate. Some members favored the reappointment of the old committee, while others suggested having the entire Council on the committee. Eventually, it was decided to appoint the old committee with substitutes to fill vacancies until a notice of motion to have the entire Council on the Finance Committee is considered.

On behalf of the Land and Labour Association, Lord Emly proposed the names of Patrick Shearin and Michael Ryan as labour representatives on the Limerick Asylum Committee. This nomination was supported by several members, and Father Casey and John Coleman were also elected to the committee.

Overall, the meeting was marked by lively discussions and votes, leading to the appointment of key members to various committees and positions within the Council.
