LIMERICK, Ireland – At the recent meeting of the Limerick County Borough Council, with the Mayor presiding, Councillor Kerr proposed the appointment of a committee to revise the water rents and conduct a thorough inquiry into the entire working of the Water Department. He raised concerns about the recurring water shortage during summer, which not only left the citizens without an adequate water supply but also forced them to use unfiltered water.
Councillor Bourke seconded the proposition and offered additional suggestions. However, Alderman Daly expressed his view that Councillor Kerr’s concerns were unnecessarily alarmist. Despite the differing opinions, the Council decided to proceed with the formation of a committee to investigate the matter further.
The appointed committee includes the following members:
- Aldermen: J. Daly, Thomas Dounellan, John O’Brien, Patrick McDonnell
- Councillors: J. Slattery, U. Johnson, M. Donnelly, George MacDovag, T. Kyan, W. Peacocke, P. Bourke, J. Hassett, J. Kerr, M. Cuddiby, W. Whelan, M. Leahy.
The committee’s mandate will be to examine the water rents, investigate the reasons for the recurring water shortages during summer, and comprehensively assess the functioning of the Water Department. With this committee in place, the Council aims to address the water supply issues effectively and find solutions for the benefit of the citizens of Limerick.
