Kilkenny Confraternity’s Enthusiastic Visit to Limerick

On Sunday, the Kilkenny Confraternity of the Holy Family, comprising a strong contingent of 1,800 members, paid a visit to Limerick, receiving a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the city. Accompanied by two brass bands and a Fife and Drum ensemble, the Confraternity made a striking display as they marched through the town, accompanied by national and religious tunes.

The Kilkenny Confraternity spans three parishes – St. John’s, St. Mary’s, and St. Patrick’s – and was accompanied by Reverend Father Murphy, Father Brady, and Father Hoyne. Their arrival at the Railway Station in Limerick was met by Reverend Father Creagh, Director of Limerick Arch-Confraternity, along with the Prefects and Sub-Prefects who formed an honour guard on each side of Queen Street.

Spending some time in the People’s Park, the visitors later formed a procession, joined by five local bands, and paraded through the town. The event culminated at Mount St. Alphonsus, where Benediction was conducted in the church by Reverend Father Murphy from Kilkenny. In a welcoming address, Father Creagh extended greetings to the visitors on behalf of the Arch-Confraternity, expressing joy at their presence in Limerick.

The visit of the Kilkenny Confraternity served as a unifying event, bringing together members from different parishes and fostering a sense of community and devotion. Their vibrant presence and the warm reception from the people of Limerick showcased the importance of such gatherings in fostering spiritual bonds and shared experiences among different communities.
