Bostock and Wombwell’s Royal Anglo-Continental Menagerie, Britain’s greatest amusement institution, is returning to Limerick after an absence of 15 years. During this time, it has traveled throughout Continental Europe, showcasing its zoological collection to thousands of delighted spectators across various countries. The menagerie has received patronage from crowned heads and notable figures on the Continent.
Upon leaving France for England, the show was witnessed by thousands, and upon its arrival at Dover Quay, it was enthusiastically welcomed. The collection boasts the most complete assortment of wild animals, curios, and rare specimens ever assembled. The show features thrilling performances by the best lion tamers in the world, who have received high praise and even decorations from the governing bodies of the countries they visited.
The menagerie is en route to fulfill an important three-week engagement in Dublin after successful shows in Waterford and Cork. During the journey, three lion cubs were born and christened by the Lord Mayor of Cork. The show is currently being piloted by the renowned Dr Dashwood, who was a popular entertainer in Limerick’s Theatre Royal ten years ago.
