On Tuesday, the Munster Feis Committee gathered in Killarney, with Rev. C. Brennan presiding and several members present, including Messrs P.J. Fleming, D. O’Neill, D. O’Sullivan, J.J. Maver, and J. Casey.
During the meeting, important decisions were made to ensure the smooth running of the Munster conference. It was agreed that all notices of motion must be submitted before August 1st to appear on the agenda paper. Arrangements for the banquet were discussed, and tickets would be issued at a price of 5 shillings, with a limited number available. Applications for tickets must be received by the Secretary before August 3rd.
Representative figures, including the Chairman of the County Councils of Munster and other dignitaries, were invited to attend the Irish banquet. The Most Reverend Dr Mangan would have the honour of opening the Feis on the first day, while the Very Reverend Canon Hayes would preside over the second day’s events.
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. Maher, Casey, and Keorrisk was appointed to handle the arrangements for the dance.
The upcoming hurling and football tournament, scheduled for August 6th, sparked excitement as teams from Cork, Limerick, and Fermoy confirmed their participation. The G.S. and W Railway Company also responded positively to the request for additional trains on that day.
A band promenade on Sunday and Monday evenings, set to take place on Lord Kenmare’s demesne lawn, was planned to accompany the Feis competitions.
The Agriculture and Technical Instruction Department confirmed the participation of Miss Evelyn Gleeson as a judge for the industrial section’s competitions.
For the industrial exhibition, posters would be issued to provide necessary information to exhibitors. Entries would be accepted until August 1st, and exhibits must reach Killarney, carriage paid, no later than August 6th. Prices should be clearly marked on items available for sale. Second prizes would only be awarded if there were at least four competitors, and the judges’ decisions would be final. All exhibits must be the genuine work of the exhibitors.
With preparations well underway, the Munster Feis promised to be a vibrant celebration of Irish culture, talent, and sportsmanship in the picturesque setting of Killarney.
