County Infirmary Committee – Resignation and Appointment

During a session of the Limerick County Council, Mr Michael Naughton, a member of the Managing Committee of the County Infirmary, expressed his desire to resign from his position. He indicated that he wished to make way for Father Casey from Abbeyteale to take his place, provided it was legally permissible.

Mr Leahy, a solicitor, clarified that Mr Naughton’s proposed resignation was entirely within the bounds of the law. The County Council is entitled to nominate fifteen individuals for the Infirmary Committee, whether or not they are existing members of the Council. Mr Naughton had been elected as one of these members, and he sought to resign formally from the committee.

The Council duly accepted Mr Naughton’s resignation, leaving the seat on the Infirmary Committee vacant. Following this, the Council could proceed to appoint Father Casey to fill the vacant position.

A resolution to accept Mr Naughton’s resignation was proposed by Mr Coleman and seconded by Mr Bourke, and it was unanimously adopted by the Council.

Next, Mr O’Dwyer suggested appointing Father Casey as Mr Naughton’s successor on the committee. However, it was decided that the proposal should come directly from Mr Naughton himself. Subsequently, Mr Naughton officially proposed Father Casey’s appointment, which was seconded by Mr O’Dwyer, and it received unanimous approval.

The meeting was then adjourned.
