SCATTERY’S ROUND TOWER SET FOR RESTORATION

Dear Editor,

I am delighted to share some wonderful news with you and our readers. The Board of Works has recently announced its intention to undertake the much-needed restoration of the ancient monument at Scattery Island. This is a moment of great satisfaction and pride for our community.

I must commend the swift and patriotic actions of the Glin, Rathkeale, and Croom District Councils, as well as the Limerick Field Club and the Kileush Urban Council. Their dedication and initiative have played a crucial role in garnering attention to the state of the round tower.

Individual members like Mr Culligan, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr Pigott, and Mr Costelloe also deserve special mention for their efforts in championing this cause. Their commitment to preserving our historical treasures is commendable.

It is my sincere hope that this inspiring example will encourage other district authorities to follow suit. By preserving these monuments, we honour the glory of our heritage and the spirit of Erin. These ancient structures are powerful reminders of our rich culture and civilization, which have had a profound impact not only on Ireland but also on England, Scotland, Wales, and many parts of Northwestern Europe.

The men and women who contributed to this endeavour can take pride in their role in preserving our history and connecting us to our past. Let us continue to cherish and protect these valuable treasures for generations to come.

Yours faithfully,

F. C. Hartigan.
