Moonlighting Outrage in County Limerick

Disturbing incidents unfolded in the Tournafulla and Abbeyfeale police sub-districts recently, highlighting the growing tensions surrounding a land dispute in the area. During the night of last Saturday, two separate acts of violence occurred, causing concern among the local residents.

Demolition of a Farmer’s House:
A newly-constructed house belonging to Mr Michael Flanagan, a farmer residing at Glengort, approximately four miles from Tournafulla, was targeted by a group of individuals. The house was brutally demolished by this party of men, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Attack on a Home:
Later that same night, in the early hours of the morning, the residence of James Leahy, also from the same townland, suffered an attack by an armed and masked group of four men. One of them fired a shot, luckily without causing any injuries. However, the aggressors broke several glass panes and caused minor damage to furniture inside Leahy’s house.

Context and Cause:
Local sources claim that these outrages are a result of heightened tension related to an ongoing land dispute in the area. Allegedly, before the shot was fired, one of the individuals involved in the attack referred to Leahy as a ‘grabber,’ a term used to criticize those who allegedly took land unfairly.

Police Response:
County Inspector Hayes visited the site of the incidents to assess the situation. Local law enforcement is actively investigating the matter, although no arrests have been made thus far.

These violent acts underscore the seriousness of the land dispute and the need for a peaceful resolution to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.
