A poignant tribute to the late Archdeacon Hamilton is currently being erected at St Mary’s Cathedral graveyard. The memorial takes the form of a marble box tomb, adorned with a border of cut limestone. On the right-hand side of the tomb is the heartfelt inscription, “In loving memory of Frederick Charles Hamilton, Archdeacon of Limerick and Rector of the Parish of St Michael; born 28th December 1828; died 4th June 1904.” At the foot of the tomb is inscribed the reassuring sentiment, “God is love.”
The craftsmanship for this commemorative piece was undertaken by Messrs G.W. Harrison of Great Brunswick Street in Dublin, in collabouration with Messrs T. O’Doherty and Sons of Bridge Street in Limerick. This testament of remembrance is a fitting tribute to the life and service of Archdeacon Hamilton, who left an indelible mark on the community he served.
As the inscription captures, the memorial stands as a reminder of the enduring impact of an individual’s life and legacy. The unity of craftsmanship across cities underscores the widespread appreciation for the Archdeacon’s contributions and the respect with which his memory is held.
