The recent celebration of the Nativity in Croom embraced the true spirit of the holy event. The parish church held Masses on Christmas morning, with services conducted every half hour from early morning until noon. Virtually the entire parishioner community participated in this sacred observance.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Rev. Father Lee had passionately encouraged the parishioners to avoid excess and intemperance during the festive season. The response was heartening, as the community demonstrated their commitment to this call.
Notably, this year’s Christmas brought enhanced comfort to the less fortunate in the area. The availability of steady employment over the previous months played a significant role in this improvement. Wage-earners diligently directed their earnings toward their families, enhancing domestic circumstances and consciously avoiding excessive visits to public houses. This collective effort resulted in a sense of tranquility and contentment prevailing throughout the community.
The local Post Office experienced an exceptional surge in activity during the week leading to Christmas Day. Despite the increased workload, efficient management at the Limerick main office ensured that mail deliveries were punctual. The direct conveyance of mails via car from the city, a practice implemented under effective oversight, effectively eliminated delays that had previously marred Christmas postal operations.
