United Irish League’s West Limerick Executive Gathers in Abbeyfeale

The West Limerick Executive of the United Irish League convened an important meeting under the chairmanship of Rev. Wm. Casey, P.P., on Sunday. The event drew notable attention as delegates and attendees gathered to discuss pressing matters within the community and the broader political landscape.

Rev. Wm. Casey, P.P., lent his guidance to the proceedings, underscoring the significance of the occasion. Following the meeting, he took the opportunity to address a crowd assembled outdoors, just outside the League rooms. The enthusiasm of the attendees was such that finding room for all proved to be a challenge.

Key resolutions were deliberated and passed during the meeting. One of the significant resolutions expressed a vote of confidence in the Irish Party, a testament to the continued support the League maintained for this political entity. Additionally, the delegates articulated a plea to the Estates Commissioners. The appeal called for the enforcement of the unecconomic land clauses, recognizing their pivotal role in fostering equitable land distribution and agricultural sustainability.

Of particular note was a heartfelt request for backing and solidarity for John Doe, an evicted town tenant from Abbeyfeale. The League’s support aimed to bring attention to the plight of individuals like John Doe and to seek justice and fair treatment in their cases.

This gathering of the West Limerick Executive emphasized the League’s commitment to its principles and its unwavering advocacy for the betterment of rural communities. By addressing pertinent issues, expressing support for political entities aligned with their goals, and showing solidarity with affected individuals, the League continues to play an integral role in the socio-political fabric of the region.
