In a recent session of the House of Commons, Mr O’Shaughnessy sought information from the Chief Secretary regarding the status of the Mount Shannoan estate sale in County Limerick. Specifically, he inquired about the completion of the sale, the timeline for evicted tenants to gain possession of allotted land, and the possibility of grants to aid in restocking the land for their new endeavours.
In response, Mr Bryce, the Chief Secretary, provided an update on the matter. The Estates Commissioners are currently in negotiations for the purchase of the Mount Shannoan estate owned by Mrs. Nevios. However, the purchase has not yet been finalized. Consequently, decisions concerning the allocation of lands and the provision of grants to evicted tenants cannot be determined until the sale process is complete.
Additionally, in response to a question from Mr Lundon, Mr Bryce shared information regarding the estate of Mrs. Hildyard in Duankip, Croom, Co. Limerick. He noted that no formal proceedings for the sale of this estate had been initiated before the Estates Commissioners. However, they had received an application on behalf of the labourers on the estate. This application would be carefully considered should the estate come before the Commissioners for assessment and handling.
These discussions in the House of Commons shed light on the ongoing efforts to address the situation of Co. Limerick estates, their sales, and the allocation of lands to evicted tenants. As negotiations and evaluations continue, the plight of those affected remains a matter of concern and consideration.
