A delegation comprising Mr R. Gibson, Mr G. Spillane, and Mr E. Travers, who serves as the secretary to the Munster-Connaught Exhibition, recently appeared before the Limerick Harbour Board. The purpose of their visit was to formally request financial assistance from the board to support the Exhibition, which was anticipated to yield significant benefits for the Limerick port area.
During the delegation’s presentation, Mr Gibson highlighted the positive impact of the Exhibition, emphasizing that it had already contributed to the establishment of a new industry centered around the production of butter casks. The industrial movement sparked by the Exhibition was thus leading to tangible economic growth and job creation.
The Harbour Board meeting displayed a favorable disposition towards extending financial support to the Exhibition. Alderman O’Mara voiced his agreement, adding that the construction costs for the Exhibition building itself were estimated to reach four to five thousand pounds.
In line with these sentiments, Alderman O’Mara announced his intention to put forth a motion during the upcoming meeting. The motion, as presented, proposed that the Harbour Board provide a financial guarantee of £200 to the Munster-Connaught Exhibition. This commitment would reinforce the board’s support for the Exhibition’s initiatives and endeavours.
