Ireland Demands Inclusion in Army Clothing Contracts

Mr C. Devlin has drawn attention to a significant issue regarding the allocation of contracts for army clothing in Ireland. Currently, very little of the considerable funds allocated to the Army are being spent within Ireland. As it stands, there is no clothing factory in Ireland known to be supplying clothing to the army, despite the presence of excellent cloth mills capable of fulfilling such a role.

Mr Devlin emphasized that Ireland contributes a substantial portion of the finances allocated to the Army and should, in turn, receive a fair share of the work generated by these expenditures. He highlighted the need for the encouragement of industry in Ireland, a region that contributes significantly to the state’s resources.

Mr Devlin raised questions about the withdrawal of a previous army clothing contract in Limerick, seeking clarification on the reasons behind this decision. He underscored the importance of creating opportunities for Irish industry, particularly in a region that plays a vital role in the nation’s economic contributions.

In conclusion, Mr Devlin expressed hope that the Secretary for War would explore avenues to establish a clothing factory in Ireland. Such an initiative would not only stimulate economic growth but also provide employment opportunities for the willing and capable workforce in Ireland.
