In a recent session at the Limerick Police Court, a series of cases unfolded following the disbursement of the Militia bounty. Acting Sergeant Elvin presented the charges, maintaining an impartial stance throughout the proceedings.
Michael Ross faced accusations of drunkenness and riotous behavior, leading to a fine of 10s 6d. In a separate charge of assaulting the Acting Sergeant, Ross was bound to keep the peace with a monetary surety. Meanwhile, in Irishtown, Mr Downes was fined 10s 6d for intoxication, and his brother, Patrick Downes, faced a similar charge resulting in an identical fine.
Another case involved George Gardiner, charged with drunkenness and riotous conduct by Constable Mahony, resulting in a fine of 10s 6d. An assault charge against Gardiner was adjourned to Petty Sessions for further investigation. In Jones’s Lane, Thomas McManus faced a fine of 10s 6d for drunkenness, brought about by Constable Hennessy. However, Patrick O’Brien, charged with drunkenness by Constable Coleman, was discharged due to it being his first offence.
