Limerick, Saturday. The citizens of Limerick are increasingly vocal about their desire for a swift resolution to the ongoing railway strike, which is causing an unbearable depression in local trade. In response to this growing concern, the local Chamber of Commerce held a special meeting yesterday, with President Mr James E. Goodbody presiding.
During the meeting, the Chamber unanimously passed a resolution condemning the claims made by the striking railway workers as impractical and unacceptable to both the company and the community. The workers’ demands were seen as unreasonable, particularly their request for discriminatory treatment of goods tendered for transmission to a common carrier. The resolution expressed full support for the firm stance taken by the Great Southern and Western Railway Co. in opposition to this demand.
In addition to addressing the specific demands of the striking workers, another resolution emerged from the meeting, asserting the public’s right, under the present intolerable circumstances, to receive all necessary assistance from the government. The citizens of Limerick demanded that the government provide support to the companies involved in the strike, enabling them to restore passenger and goods trains to their normal operating conditions.
The resolutions passed by the Chamber of Commerce reflect the growing frustration and concern among the citizens of Limerick as the strike continues to take a toll on local businesses and trade. The appeal for government intervention underscores the urgency felt by the community to bring an end to the strike and alleviate the economic hardships faced by both businesses and the general public.
