Tragic news has reached the city of Limerick regarding the loss of Gunner George T. Kearns, a native son, in the recent conflict near Ypres. Gunner Kearns, formerly a chorister in St. Mary’s Cathedral and later an accomplished organist at Middleton Parish Church, met his untimely demise during the fierce fighting.
Hailing from Limerick, Gunner Kearns emigrated to Canada several years ago, drawn by the allure of new opportunities. When war erupted, he answered the call to duty, enlisting with the initial Canadian Contingent. With valour and determination, he ventured to the front lines, where fate dealt him a soldier’s end.
The passing of Gunner Kearns has cast a sombre shadow over the community, as friends, family, and fellow citizens come together to honour his memory. Limerick stands united in mourning, remembering him not only as a talented musician but also as a brave defender of liberty on the battlefield.
