Grand Dedication Ceremony Marks Opening of New Limerick Church

Amidst a gathering of clergy and worshippers, the inauguration of the new Catholic church in Murroe, Co. Limerick, unfolded in a solemn and grand ceremony yesterday. Led by the esteemed Most Reverend Dr Harty, the dedication of the sacred edifice was a momentous occasion for the community.

The church, designed in the distinguished Hiberno-Romanesque architectural style by Mr J. J. O’Malley, stands as a testament to both faith and craftsmanship. Situated on an elevated eminence, it offers a picturesque panorama of the surrounding countryside, including the majestic Galtee Mountains.

The interior, adorned with intricate decorations meticulously crafted by Mmes. Watson and Tunstall, exudes an aura of reverence and beauty. The addition of a stunning set of Stations of the Cross, generously gifted by Reverend P. O’Malley, further enhances the spiritual ambiance within.

Noteworthy contributions from Archbishop Harty and Archbishop Fenelly, including stained glass windows, enrich the church’s aesthetic appeal. Reverend J. O’Neill delivered an eloquent sermon, reflecting on the parish’s rich history, particularly its ties to the old Abbey of Durney and Blithe.

The ceremony also paid homage to Sir John Burke, a revered figure in local history, whose unwavering faith in the face of adversity serves as an inspiration. The musical accompaniment, provided by the choir of the Jesuit Church, Limerick, under the direction of Mr Paul Bernard, added to the solemnity of the occasion.

Behind the scenes, the tireless efforts of Very Reverend Canon Doan, P.P., V.F., played a pivotal role in bringing the church to fruition over the past decade. His dedication and leadership were duly acknowledged during the proceedings.

The clergy, including distinguished figures like Reverend A. Ryan P.P., V.G., Reverend T. Moran, and Reverend M. J. Ryan, among others, lent their presence and blessings to the event, underscoring the unity and strength of the Catholic community.

As the bells tolled and hymns filled the air, the dedication ceremony concluded, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who attended, and ushering in a new chapter in the spiritual life of Murroe.
