Successful Excursion of St. Michael’s Women’s Sodality to Foynes

Foynes – The members of St. Michael’s Women’s Total Abstinence Society embarked on their second excursion of the year on Sunday, heading to the picturesque town of Foynes. The demand was so high that two trains were arranged for the journey. The first train departed at 9:45 am, followed by another at 10:20 am, both filled with enthusiastic travellers. Foynes, basking in delightful weather, showcased its splendour, providing a scenic backdrop for a delightful day for the visitors.

Gracious hosts Lord and Lady Monteagle generously granted the group unrestricted access to the magnificent grounds of Mount Trenchard, further enriching their experience. Mrs Hanratty of Limerick Railway Refreshment Rooms kindly provided tea in a spacious setting, while the presence of St. Joseph’s Industrial School band added to the trip’s enjoyment. Festive dancing parties were organized, and all participants, including the young women, revelled in the joyous atmosphere.

Accompanying the excursion were several clergymen, including Reverend J. M. Cregan, Reverend Father O’Connor, Reverend J. O’Shea, Reverend Father O’Leary, and Reverend Father Gunning, an Australian clergyman visiting Ireland. Benediction was held in the evening at Foynes Church, and the return journey proceeded smoothly with two trains departing, the first at 6:45 pm and the second at 7:30 pm, ensuring a timely return for all attendees.
