“Croom District Council Extends Congratulations to John Redmond and William O’Brien, MPs”

At the recent meeting of the Croom District Council, chaired by Mr J. Coleman, a resolution was proposed and unanimously adopted to extend warm congratulations to Mr John E Redmond and Mr William O’Brien, Members of Parliament. The council members expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the statesmanlike address delivered by Mr Redmond at the public demonstration held in Limerick. They commended the good order and discipline observed throughout the event, considering it a strong demonstration of unity and patriotism.

Chairman Coleman acknowledged the importance of the resolution and praised Mr Costelloe for consistently advocating for the country’s interests. He highlighted the success of the recent demonstration and the positive atmosphere displayed by all parties involved. The chairman suggested sending a copy of the resolution to Mr Redmond, as he believed it would be well received.

Chairman Coleman further discussed Mr Redmond’s efforts during the event, emphasizing the great strain he endured to ensure the sentiments and ideas of every one were respected. He also shared his delight at meeting Mr Redmond again and expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the demonstration, particularly welcoming back Mr William O’Brien.

The chairman took the opportunity to address another matter concerning the sale of Mr Redmond’s property a year ago. He clarified that there were misunderstandings regarding Mr Redmond’s position, highlighting that the tenants had initially offered a price exceeding what was required. Mr Redmond, as the leader of the Irish people, suggested a reduction in the offer. Ultimately, the average purchase price was 21.5 years, with only two cases reaching 24 years. Chairman Coleman acknowledged the disputed value of certain properties but highlighted Mr Redmond’s unique position as a landlord who took steps to protect tenants from paying arrears to those severing connections with the property. In fact, Mr Redmond personally paid £4,000 in cash to settle arrears, showing his commitment to the tenants.

The resolution was warmly received, emphasizing the council’s support for Mr Redmond and Mr O’Brien. The meeting proceeded with regular business matters following the adoption of the resolution.
