Murdered Schoolmistress: Husband and Brother Charged and Remanded

The tragic murder of a beautiful schoolmistress in the village of Ardfert, County Kerry, has sent shockwaves through the community. As we reported a few days ago, the incident led to the arrest of the victim’s husband, Patrick O’Riordan, and her brother, Thomas O’Driscoll. The case was brought before Resident Magistrate Wynne at Tralee court on Saturday for investigation.

During the proceedings, various witnesses testified to the troubled relationship between the husband and wife. The deceased schoolmistress often had to seek refuge in a neighbor’s house due to the strained situation at home. On the evening before her untimely death, the woman sought shelter at the residence of a labourer named Stack and knocked on the door. However, before Stack could answer, her husband arrived at the scene and forcibly took her away, despite her protests.

It was revealed that the two suspects left for Limerick the following morning. The stationmaster at Ardfert station noticed what appeared to be a red spot resembling blood on O’Riordan’s waistcoat. The trail led them to Queenstown, where they were eventually apprehended by the authorities.

Upon the request of Mr Murphy, the Crown solicitor, both suspects were remanded until the next Thursday for further investigation. The case has gripped the community, leaving them in a state of disbelief and sorrow over the tragic loss of the schoolmistress. Authorities continue their diligent efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding this heart-wrenching crime.
