In his address at the opening of the Quarter Sessions yesterday and today, Judge Adams bestowed the title of “A Model City” and a crimeless “Tranquil County” upon Limerick. His Honor acknowledged that during his twelve-year administration as County Court Judge, Limerick has maintained an impressive record of immunity from crime, a fact that citizens can rightfully take pride in. This favorable state of affairs, which is in harmony with the natural disposition of the Irish people, owes much to the serious religious atmosphere that pervades the domestic life of our city. Additionally, the influence and high moral effect of the great Arch-Confraternity, along with various other Confraternities and Sodalities for men and women, play a significant role in maintaining this satisfactory condition year-round.
It is heartening to note that not only Limerick but the entire country has experienced a decrease in the business of Judges of Assize and the County Court over the years. However, it is essential to acknowledge that the modified form of liberty, which the Irish people have long been advocating, is still not fully realized. The absence of this essential aspect may continue to cast a sombre influence on the commercial and intellectual life of the people.
