Derryvree’s Intertill Bryophytes
The position of the Derryvree deposit is its most decisive feature. A lower till indicates an earlier glacial occupation of the site. Above it lies the freshwater sequence, formed when ice no longer covered this part of south Fermanagh and water, sediments, plants and insects accumulated. An upper till records a later return of glacier ice. The sequence establishes a local non-glacial interval between advances, preserved because subsequent ice buried rather than entirely eroded it.
