Controversy Surrounds Mungret College’s Alleged Lack of Irish Identity and Authenticity

Dear Sir,

I must express my satisfaction at the positive reception of the “Annual” of Mungret College by both you and your readers. It is indeed gratifying to know that this esteemed institution is aligning itself with the Gaelic League and actively engaging Ireland’s youth in the pursuit of their country’s real-life aspirations. Mungret College aims to save them from the perils of shabby gentility and equip them with a deep understanding of Irish culture, traditions, and an unwavering dedication to building an Irish Ireland.

However, it is with a heavy heart that I must acknowledge a lamentable truth: Mungret College, Limerick, falls short of being authentically Irish in its daily operations and inner workings. The Annual, though published under false pretenses, reflects this unfortunate reality. Mungret College, much like the town adorned with recruiting posters that embellish the walls of Garryowen, lacks true Irish essence. These posters extol the glories of Erin in the British fighting line, while the Mungret College Annual merely dedicates a portion of its content to the Irish language.

It is my hope that Mungret College and its administration will recognize the importance of embracing a genuine Irish identity and infuse it into every aspect of their educational endeavours. Only then can they truly prepare their students to contribute meaningfully to the noble cause of an Irish Ireland.

Yours sincerely,
Limerick Correspondent
