In 1903, the landmark Wyndham Land Purchase Act was successfully passed, introducing a range of incentives aimed at encouraging landlords in Ireland to sell their properties to their tenants. George Wyndham, who assumed the role of Chief Secretary for Ireland in 1900, expressed his optimistic outlook on the Act’s potential impact, stating, “I feel fairly confident – nay, sanguine – that 1903 will mark an epoch in Irish history.”
On Monday, the County Crown Court witnessed the presence of Messrs L. Falkiner, N.L., and J.C. Bagot, Land Sub-Commissioners, as they presided over a series of applications seeking fair rent determinations. The majority of these applications pertained to second-term rents. The session was adjourned and is scheduled to reconvene today to address approximately fifty cases from the Limerick Union district. The remaining cases will be heard at designated centres, with specific details to be announced at a later date.
