Foynes Show and Sports Delight Holiday Crowds

Rarely does a Bank Holiday offer such a combination of athletic sports and a small exhibition of Irish culture and country life, but that was precisely the case on Monday at Foynes. The event drew an immense crowd, eager to partake in the festivities, although the weather did not fully cooperate. The highlight of the aquatic activities was the thrilling yacht race organized by Mr Ambrose Hall, J.P., with Mr Olinn’s yacht, the Rose of Kiirush, emerging as the victor. Mr P.J. Mallon led the athletic sports section, which captivated the interest of the sizable onlookers. The event’s planning was expertly executed by a committee, with Mr J.J. Harratty of Limerick playing an active role.

The Flower, Poultry, and Produce Show proved highly successful, showcasing an impressive collection of Irish manufactured goods curated by the Foynes Branch of the Gaelic League. The Social Improvement Association, under the guidance of Lady Monteagle, deserves immense credit for their impeccable organization and execution of the event. Despite the weather-related challenges, the day was enjoyed by all, leaving a lasting impression of community spirit and celebration in Foynes.
