Under the chairmanship of Mr MP.. Mahony, the Abbeyfeale Town Tenants League held its regular meeting on Thursday night. Present at the meeting were various notable individuals, including Messrs. C. O’Rourke, Hon. T.D. O’Connor, E.W. Forde, D.M. Broderick, D. O’Neill, M.J. Browne, P. Buckley, M. Brouder, D.E. Leahy, D.D. O’Sullivan, T.J. Keane, D.C.P. M. Moloney, J. Quirke, J. Byrne, D. Daly, T. Collins, C. Daly, M. Scannell, W.J. O’Connor, D.C. Daly, C. Harnett, John Harnett, C. Cronin, J. Cotter, J. Moloney, T. Normile, M. Callaghan, M. Sheehy, J. Dennis, and M. Dillane.
Mr O’Rourke, the Honorary Secretary, informed the members that at the previous meeting, it had been decided to have posters promoting the Town Tenants’ defence collection on November 6th. However, since that date coincided with the Limerick demonstration, it was agreed to postpone the collection to the following week.
Mr D.D. O’Sullivan raised the issue of his case, explaining that despite repeatedly bringing it to the attention of the League, he had been unable to secure a reduction in his rent. He had already paid £96 over six years, along with £20 for improvements, yet an eviction decree had been obtained against him. The landlord appeared determined to reclaim the house and collect the rent. Mr O’Sullivan had lodged an appeal against the decision.
Mr O’Neill expressed his opinion that taking further action in the matter would be futile. The discussion on the case was adjourned for further consideration.
Additionally, Mr O’Neill suggested seeking the opinion of prominent members of the Irish Land League who were involved in town purchases. This proposal was welcomed, and it was agreed to reach out to these individuals for their input on the matter.
