On Saturday night, a general meeting of the Limerick Journalists’ Association took place at their new premises located at 17 George Street. Mr W. Reky presided over the meeting, with several other members in attendance, including Messrs. J.H. Wright, J.A. Baldwin, C. O’Sullivan, W.S. Burke, J.M. O’Connell, G. MacDonagh, W. Barrett, M.H. Cashin, J.J. McGuire, J. Holland, F.G. Lawlor, and J. Guinane.
The Honorary Secretary, Mr Barrett, read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were confirmed and signed. The Chairman then presented a resolution recommended by the committee during their meeting on the 20th instant. The resolution expressed a strong protest against the personal insult directed at one of their colleagues by Alderman John Daly at a recent Corporation meeting. The association expressed their disapproval of such attacks and unanimously resolved not to give publicity to such utterances in the future.
Another resolution, proposed by Mr MacDonagh and unanimously seconded, was passed. The association extended their deepest sympathy to Mr J.M. Guinane for the loss of his beloved daughter. A copy of the resolution was ordered to be forwarded to Mr Guinane.
Following that, on the proposal of Mr O’Connell and seconded by Mr O’Sullivan, the association unanimously expressed their gratitude to Mr J.H. Wright, the Honorary Treasurer, and Mr W. Barrett, the Honorary Secretary, for their exceptional and wholehearted efforts in furnishing the club rooms.
Other detailed matters were adjourned for discussion at a future meeting.
