
A heartwarming event occurred at the rooms of the Limerick and District Journalists’ Association, where a presentation ceremony was held. The occasion marked the gifting of a beautiful silver-mounted “Kapp” pipe, suitably engraved, to Mr Maurice Linnane. Mr Linnane, a popular member of the association, was leaving Limerick to take up a significant position at the Kildare Observer.
Mr W. G. Peacocke, in the absence of the President, presided over the event. The chairman praised Mr Linnane’s journalistic skills and highlighted his qualities as a social member of the club. He commended Mr Linnane’s abilities and his friendly demeanor, expressing confidence in his bright future.
Mr J. M. O’Connell, who had worked with Mr Linnane, echoed the chairman’s sentiments, praising his professionalism and personal qualities. He congratulated Mr Linnane on his new appointment while expressing regret over his departure.
Other members in attendance also spoke, sharing their appreciation and good wishes. Mr Linnane, in his response, expressed gratitude for the presentation and spoke fondly of his association with the Limerick Journalists’ Association. He thanked his colleagues for their kindness and vowed never to forget the association, despite being away from Limerick.
The evening included toasts to the guest, the junior members, the Limerick and District Journalists Association, and the ladies. Songs were contributed by various members, adding a musical touch to the event. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
The event showcased the camaraderie and appreciation among Limerick journalists, highlighting Mr Linnane’s achievements and the close-knit nature of the journalistic community.
