Proposed Extension of Newmarket Railway to Abbeyfeale

The long-discussed extension of the Newmarket railway line to Abbeyfeale, the closest point on the GS&W Railway with direct access to the city and district of North Cork and West Limerick, continues to be a matter of great importance and necessity. Advocates of this extension persistently highlight the significant advantages that would result from establishing such a connection. They argue that it would bring immense benefits to the local farmers, markets, and general commercial interests in West Limerick and North Kerry.

Several years ago, efforts were made to promote the extension, and an official survey of the proposed route was conducted, revealing no engineering challenges. However, since then, little progress has been made in advancing the project. It is now expected that the matter will be brought before the public again, seeking the necessary funding and parliamentary approval to proceed with the extension.
