The community in Limerick is deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Mary Bergin, the beloved wife of Mr P. J. Bergin, formerly of Gortboy, Kilmallock. Her death occurred at their residence at 26 Queen Street, Limerick, following a brief illness, during which she was comforted by the sacraments of the Holy Church.
Mrs. Bergin came from a highly esteemed family in County Limerick, and her untimely departure is mourned by her many friends and relatives in the vicinity, including Kilmallock, Kiltinane, and Tipperary.
The funeral took place on a Tuesday, commencing from the city and proceeding towards Effin, a location situated between Kilmallock and Charleville. Along the route, the procession passed through Bruff, where it was met by numerous friends and relatives. Upon arrival in Kilmallock, the procession was notably large, a testament to the high regard in which the deceased was held.
The Reverend Father Corrich, Parish Priest, and the Reverend Father Barry were among the clergy who attended to offer their blessings and support. Mr P. J. Bergin, the husband of the deceased, played a leading role among the mourners, accompanied by other close family members, including Miss Mary Bergin, Mr J. Brennan, Mr John Brennan, Miss Winifred Brennan, Mrs. Fitzgerald, Miss Ciss Fitzgerald, Mr John Fitzgerald, Mrs. Hogan, Mrs. Lena Organ, Mrs. Coleman, Richard Fitzgerald, Messrs. M and P Carroll, Miss Gracie Carroll, Mrs. Davern, F. Organ, Thomas Hogan, John Hogan, Miss Molly Curtin, T. Curtin, Denis Hayes, P. Hayes, and the Misses Hayes.
The public turnout was substantial and inclusive, reflecting the widespread respect and affection for the departed. The entire community shares in the grief of Mr P. J. Bergin and the Bergin family during this difficult time as they bid farewell to their beloved Mary.
